Mission

The mission of Mathematical Sciences is to produce graduates who will: Develop mathematical ability and knowledge of the depth and breadth of mathematics. Communicate about mathematics and by utilizing mathematics. Use technology to support problem solving and promote understanding. Apply the mathematical sciences, including statistics, in other academic disciplines.

The program offers a subject major in Mathematics and Mathematics Education and minors in Mathematics, Applied Statistics and Mathematics Education (K-8). The Mathematics Education option satisfies the requirements for a Field Endorsement in 6-12 Mathematics. There is also a middle level education academic area in Mathematics (5-9). A student must complete the core requirements and an option, in addition to general studies requirements, and a major or minor in another area. Mathematics Education students must complete Professional Education requirements in place of a major or minor in another area.

The complete Bachelor of Science in Mathematics program is offered online, as well as the traditional classroom setting. Please visit Student Opportunities for more information about online learning. The program also offers graduate degrees in mathematics education and resources designed to renew and update qualifications online.

Many opportunities are available for students. We are host to the Nebraska Gamma Chapter of Kappu Mu Epsilon, a mathematics honor society.

Mathematics Online

The entire mathematics program (major, endorsement and minors) is available online, as well as in the classroom.

The online math program at Chadron State College is convenient, a good buy, and a great learning opportunity. Because the courses are offered online, distant students can keep their current jobs and avoid moving expenses. They pay a flat tuition rate regardless of their residency status, and scholarships and Financial Aid opportunities are also available. The classes are small and the professors are dedicated to student success.

The mathematics classes are offered as hybrid classes. Hybrid classes are courses in which all students have access to the online materials. The on-campus students are expected to attend class in a traditional setting, where the professor in many instances will record the lecture, and all board work is done on a Smart Board. In many courses the Smart Board and audio files of class proceedings are typically uploaded after each class meeting for access by both on-campus students and distant students.

The mathematics programs available online include: Bachelor of Science in Mathematics; Teaching Endorsement mathematics courses; Minor in Mathematics; Minor in Applied Statistics; MAE, Mathematics; and MEd. in Curriculum and Instruction, and Mathematics.
